As a general rule, the animal must be vaccinated against major diseases and accompanied by medical records.
In particular, with regard to rabies vaccination, if you leave/arrive from other Italian regions, the dog (or cat/ferret) must be regularly enrolled at the animal registry, by showing the chip number; if you leave/arrive from another EU Country, the animal must be registered at birth, and accompanied by the European passport showing the chip number and the certificate of rabies vaccination; if leave/arrive from a non-EU country the animal must be enrolled at the registry of the Country of origin by showing the International Certificate with the chip number, as well as the certificate of rabies vaccination.
In any case, only dogs that have been regularly vaccinated (against ectoparasites and endoparasites and against the most common diseases: distemper, parvovirus, leptospirosis) can be transported in public transport, ship or aircraft.
